Early Years and Reception update
Early Years have been working on looking at numbers on a number line. We look what comes before and after a number and where it is located on the line. We are working daily on our sounds and blending them to make simple words. We have also come back to rhyming and are reading poems and stories that have rhyming words. Next week our class will be focusing upon Spring and growth.
Meanwhile in Reception, our new science topic is Growing Plants. We started the topic by growing cress seeds in homemade classroom greenhouses. The children did some research and found out that cress only needs sunlight and water to grow. The children planted the seeds and then spent the week observing the changes and growth daily. On day 7 we tasted the cress and the children all decided it was yummy!
We have also spent time talking about different plant parts and identified them on a range of plants. Next week we are planting sunflowers in class. We are excited to see who’s grows the tallest! We will keep a weekly diary on the growth of our sunflowers and take measurements.
Both Early Years and Reception will be following up on their exploratory work by going on nature walk field trip in the local area in order to look for signs of spring and new growth.
