ISW celebrates German-American Day
ISW were delighted to join members of the “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz” group at their German-American Stammtisch last night to celebrate the German American Day.
In 1987, Congress established October 6, as German-American Day. The date reminds us of October 6th, 1683, when 13 German families arrived near Philadelphia and founded Germantown. While this day was designated to honor the contribution of German immigrants to the development of America, it is also the perfect occasion to bring to mind the manifold connections between Germany and the U.S.
The guest speaker of the evening, Mario Aulenbacher, is Director at the Docu Center in Ramstein. This institution is dedicated to displaying the multi-faceted history of the Ramstein Air Base and the American presence in the region. Members learned about the preservation of unique documents, the current exhibit "Handshake", and the work of compiling information about the development over the past 60 years.

An interesting and informative meeting was followed by great food and interesting intercultural exchanges.
