ISW celebrates International Women’s Day

On Wednesday 8th March, we celebrated International Women’s Day at ISW. International Women's Day is celebrated to commemorate and honour women's accomplishments, raise awareness about gender disparities and discrimination, as well as promote global support for women. This year the theme of International Women’s Day was #EmbraceEquity as shown on the official “International Womens’ Day” website https://www.internationalwomensday.com/Theme and beautifully demonstrated by our Learning Partners.

To mark this significant global occasion, our female teachers in our Secondary school took the lead in a specially designed Wednesday Programme, designed to celebrate women who have impacted on their lives. The programme included Beate introducing the concept of Equity; Julie talking about Maya Angelou; and Devika focusing on Marie Curie and Shakuntala Devi (the ‘Human Computer’). Our learning partners had many opportunities to ask questions and to engage in some creative learning activities as part of the lessons. Patty followed up on the presentations by challenging learning partners to research into other prominent women from history and the modern world, who have made a significant impact in their field.

At ISW, we strive to give our learners the opportunity to develop as global citizens and to become more internationally minded, and by marking days like International Women’s Day we empower our learners to think critically, explore their passions and to think outside the box. We encourage learners to become autonomous learners, and to make real world connections.
