Reception spends time delving into books

As Dr. Seuss (American children’s author) quotes, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Reading is an integral part of our pedagogic concept at ISW. Particularly in young children, it has proven to promote brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens relationships. It also expands their understanding of the world.

Our reception class have recently been focusing on improving their reading and writing skills in a fun and interactive manner. The class have been studying books by the British author Oliver Jeffers, whom is known for his talent in creating amazing picture books which young children love.

Particular attention was given to the works ‘How to catch a star’ and ‘Way back home.’ Our students have been retelling the stories using puppets, creating character profiles, writing new parts to the stories and creating dialogue the character might say. The children have had a huge amount of fun in the process and have created some fantastic writing.
