Year two field trip to “Gärtnerei Hanns”

Our year two classes have been learning about plants. The first line of focus involved the ability to name and describe the function of the major parts of flowering plants, which was then followed by an experiment involving planting some cress seeds in a plastic bag so we could observe the parts as they germinated.

The students then carried out a scientific enquiry to identify the appropriate conditions that seeds need to grow and be healthy. This involved a field trip to a local garden centre, “Gärtnerei Hanns” where we were given a guided tour. The LPs enjoyed learning about different plants, how to take care of them and asking many questions. They then bought seeds of their choice which were taken back to school to plant an observe.

We are very grateful to “Gärtnerei Hanns” for providing an excellent location to discover hands-on all about plants which really built on the knowledge we had built through theory.
