Year two stepping into STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)

Our Year two’s have been giving focus to STEM subjects over the last few weeks. STEM is a general term used to group together the distinct but related technical disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

At ISW we are approaching these areas through different “fun and inspiring” means. In science we are exploring human organs and had two guest speakers, Dr Rory and Dr Sarah, to share their knowledge and to answer all of our questions from our inquisitive learning partners.

In Math, we have been exploring shapes and angles. The Learning Partners made 3D shapes using marshmallows and sticks to gain a deeper understanding of their properties. They used mirrors to investigate symmetry and sketch reflections of 2D shapes. We also learned about right angles, obtuse angles and acute angles

STEM subjects have been given much focus by governments over the last few years in terms of their importance with regards to skills needed by future workforces. By making learning fun and meaningful at ISW, we hope to inspire our students to follow their passions in these areas.
